Queensland’s First Luxury Boutique Hotel – The Emporium Hotel

Brisbane’s mark as a city of cosmopolitan savvy was complete with the Emporium Hotel, the first true luxury boutique hotel for the Queensland capital. The hotel is the sole vision of two dedicated property and design-driven Queenslanders, Anthony and Francine John of the Anthony John Group. Together they have conceived, designed, created and delivered a hotel without equal in Queensland.

Built in conjunction with the now pivotal residential and retail precinct, Emporium, in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley. Once a derelict site, today it represents the heart of inner city lifestyle, famed for its fusion of residential living, retail, restaurants, bars and our luxurious Hotel which opened in June 2007.

A tangible vision of contemporary elegance and enchanting hospitality, the Emporium Hotel aspires to provide the highest level of sophistication and service in a boutique environment. Our boutique Hotel is designed to feature 102 luxury guest suites, Cocktail Bar, Belle Époque Patisserie, Roof Top Terrace with sauna and lap pool, Function & Events Centre, Business Centre, In-Suite Spa Menu and 24hr Concierge services.

The design architecture of the hotel was driven by owner, Francine John. She created the overall concept, look and feel, inspired by the frangipani flower. The majority of the design features were sourced locally by Queensland based artists and suppliers. Urban Art Projects, the innovative design company headed by Brisbane based Brothers Mathew & Daniel Tobin were key to the design of the hotel.

Design Features:

  • The reception walls are bronze overlay of glass printed frangipani design and backlit with LED Lights (LED = Light Emitting Diodes.  Branch overlay – copper, bronze and gold leaf by Urban Art Projects.
  • The Chandelier featured in reception was designed by Urban Art Projects - artist Greg Royer was commissioned to create the glass. He is a glass blower from the North Coast Hinterland. The idea for the chandelier was to achieve a very opulent and spectacular look featuring the signature colour red.
  • The feature table in reception is “burl walnut timber”, crafted with an inset of frangipani flowers locally by Robert Dunlop.
  • In the Cocktail Bar the grand onyx bar is overlit by an antique German chandelier, originally from a castle in Europe, home to elegant debutante balls.
  • Another stunning feature of the bar is an exquisite stained glass wall, originally a Parisian shop front crafted more than 100 years ago. The piece was exported to Buenos Aires where it was used as a window in a mansion, before being flown to Australia by an antique dealer and catching the eye of the Emporium Hotel.
  • The Wine Library in the Cocktail Bar features a fine wine collection and is encased in glass and back lit with LED, also starring a plasma screen with the ability to customize presentations (purely the vision) on the screen.

Everything at this luxury boutique Hotel is designed to inspire and create a moment of exquisite stays…
